Tabgha, Israel (Hebrew: עין שבע, Ein Sheva which means "spring of seven") is an area situated on the north-western shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel and a depopulated Palestinian village. It is traditionally accepted as the third resurrection appearance of Jesus (John 21) after his Crucifixion. As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon named Peter and his brother Andrew, casting their nets into the lake; they were fishermen. 19 Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:18-19) 2. Simon Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16) 3. Peter said to him, “Lord, if it is you, tell me to come to you on the water.” (Matthew 14:28) 4. Peter said to him, “You must never wash my feet.” Jesus said to him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part in my life.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!” (John 13:8-9) 5. Peter said to him, “Lord, why can’t I go with you now? I am willing to lay down my life for you.” Jesus said to him, “Are you willing to lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” (John 13:37-38) 6. Simon Peter took a sword, drew it, and slashed the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malechus. (John 18:10) 7. Peter denied it again. Immediately the rooster crowed. (John 18:27) 8. Simon Peter said to everyone, “I’m going fishing.” The disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” Simon Peter, who was naked at the time, when he heard that it was the Lord, put on a cloak and jumped into the sea. (John 21:3,7) 9. Jesus said to him a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter said to him, “Yes, Lord. You know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Shepherd my sheep.” (John 21:16) 10. Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.” Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” John 21:18-22
A Turning Point of Love; A Restoration to Peter
At that time, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, (Acts 4:8) “Know, all of you and all the people of Israel, that this man standing before you has been healed by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead. He is the stone you builders rejected, now the cornerstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:10-12)
